The hood and a lot of wiring burned to a crisp. If your system current draw is near the max output of the charging circuit, i would think this regulator is unneccessary.

A good battery is just as effective. These only charge your battery and unless your battery was very marginal when you went out, it should run on a fully charged battery longer than that.

There are 6 models of the cdi rectifier regulator to fit many of the johnson, evinrude, mercury, and mariner outboards manufactured over the years going all the way back to the mid 1960’s. When i shut her down the tach will still read 1200 rpm.

Disconnect the mercury outboard switch and reset, if the engine fires, replace the mercury outboard switch. Merc suggests the first thing you should check if voltage at battery appears low and connections to battery are known to be good is to connect a digital volt meter between the alternator’s output stud and a ground on the alternator.

The service document also included that a plate on the side of the motor was also replaced. I also believe that the voltage regulator under the cowling may have overheated.

I doubt it's your rectifier/regulator causing the original running problem. Although the batteries are different brands, they are approximately the same age.

Now A Boat Owner Will Have The Same Safe Charging Voltage As A New Outboard Does With No More Overvoltage Alarms From His Or Hers Electronics.
